Innovation needs one common language
I saw a post about internationals in the Brainport region.
The message looks positive, but the mindset is wrong.
The idea is that internationals should speak the local language to feel at home faster.
This sounds good, but it creates problems for innovation.
Brainport wants to attract global talent.
Global talent moves fast.
Innovation also moves fast.
Learning a new language takes time.
Innovation cannot wait for that.
In international teams, English is a tool.
It is not about culture or respect.
It is about clear and fast communication.
Open innovation needs people from many countries to work together from day one.
They need to share ideas without delay.
They need strong networks and trust.
Of course, learning the local language is useful.
It helps in daily life.
It helps in the long term.
But it should not be a requirement to belong.
Belonging comes from contribution.
From teamwork.
From results.
If a region wants to be global, it must adapt to global reality.
It must lower barriers, not raise them.
Forcing one local language slows down growth.
Using a common language speeds it up.
